Go Outdoors

Dear Friend,
Joe_Fox
Welcome to the Outdoor Recreation Heritage Fund (ORHF) website.

In 2001, Paralyzed Veterans of America established the Fund as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to permanently support the organization's many outdoor sports programs, including fishing, handcycling and triathlon, track and field events, and recreational shooting and hunting.

Sports and outdoor recreation play an enormous role in helping our seriously wounded veterans help themselves. Sports are life saving and quality-of-life changing. You just need to see the faces of these guys and gals, many of whom had lost the will to live when they were injured, to understand the impact sports have. Thanks to ORHF and Paralyzed Veterans of America’s world-class sports program, these folks go from hospital beds to taking their first steps back to independence-whether it’s through trap shooting or shooting hoops. Many of these brave men and women go on to win medals at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games and even become paralympians.

Take U.S. Army veteran Staff Sergeant Nick McCoy, actually born on the Fourth of July, who lost two legs and an arm in Afghanistan. Thanks to our ORHF event in Alaska last summer, Nick was able to go fishing on his birthday, bringing a whole new meaning to Independence Day for this brave hero. And your support for ORHF is honoring and helping to empower people like Nick everyday. To hear an interview with Nick, click here.

We'll be back in Alaska July 1-4 for another Kenai event which has been known as the Senator Ted Stevens Kenai Classic.

On May 18 I will be picking four to six Alaskan returning veterans to attend. We will not be entering the Classic itself, but we will be holding a four-day event on the Kenai with the help of Dan McDowell, known to ORHF as the Last Frontiersman. Dan is a true leader in making this event accessible and possible, not least of which is his generosity in granting use of his Kenai River Front property as a base camp.

We support many different outdoor sports including fishing, handcycling, recreational shooting and hunting, and other sports. Our events are open to all America's paralyzed veterans and all people with disabilities.

I always appreciate hearing from you. Please feel free to email me at jfoxpva@verizon.net.

Thank you for your support.
